Our Mission

To guide you and your loved one through the process of selecting an appropriate assisted living facility. In order to fulfill this mission and to help us narrow down your options, an in-person consultation will be completed to gain an understanding of your care needs, affordability, along with what is desired in a facility.

Through this process we answer many questions such as “What is the difference between assisted living, residential care and board & cares?” or “What is long term care?” We can provide a list of commonly asked questions to help bring you clarity.

Marianne Seifert, Senior Resources in Redding, CA

Marianne was inspired to write The Senior Source to educate the Redding community of not only placement options, but to provide information about many other beneficial resources for seniors and the issues they face in the aging process. Over the years she has learned the importance of creating awareness of local resources in order for seniors to receive the help they need, especially for those who may be new to the area. Marianne was so impressed by the number of local resources available, she wanted to make them more readily accessible to her community. The information provided is intended to create a proactive approach to healthcare, estate planning, housing, advance directives and other matters of aging. Marianne believes the more informed you are, the more prepared you will be.

Marianne Seifert, your Assisted Living Specialist

Marianne Seifert has been working with seniors and older adults in the Redding community for over two decades. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and began her career as a social worker in a local skilled nursing facility. Her rewarding experience in skilled nursing inspired her to create her own placement service, Marianne’s Senior Placement Services. This service assists seniors and their families through the process of selecting an appropriate assisted living or residential care facility by helping them to understand their options. Over the last 20 years, Marianne has gained significant knowledge and understanding of the community resources which has been incredibly valuable in the development of this directory. Marianne answers many questions such as: “what is the difference between a skilled nursing facility and an assisted living facility” and “does insurance cover the cost?” The placement process can be so overwhelming, but Marianne can help you out.

Assisted Living - Special Tips

All assisted living facilities/residential care facilities are private pay, meaning out-of-pocket cost. Long Term Care Insurance may also cover some of the cost, if assisted living is included in your plan. Medicare, supplemental/private insurance and Medi-Cal (except in certain counties) do not pay for these types of care facilities.

  • The VA has a benefit called Aid & Attendance for war time veterans and their widows that may help cover some of the costs. Call the Veterans Service Office at (530) 225-5616 to see if you meet the qualifications.

  • Prior to admission a Tuberculosis test and a Physician’s Report for Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (Form 602A) are required.

  • Health conditions prohibited in assisted living facilities include: feeding tubes, IV’s, stage 3 or deeper pressure wounds (bed sores), tracheostomies, and contagious infections such as MRSA, C.Diff, Tuberculosis, VRE, COVID-19. These conditions must be resolved prior to admission.

  • Ask about physicians and physician’s assistants who may make home- visits to the care homes if needed.

  • For a list of facilities in California, outside Redding, visit the Department of Social Services – Community Care Licensing website at cdss.ca.gov or call (530) 895-5033.
